Drinking Water Concerns:

Pharmaceuticals are showing up in our waterways and drinking water.
Pharmaceuticals are showing up in our waterways and drinking water.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, "Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) are being discovered in our Nation's waterways at very low concentrations. Pharmaceuticals refer to prescription and over-the-counter therapeutic drugs and veterinary drugs." In 2002, the U.S. Geological Survey collected water samples from 139 streams in 30 states and determined that 80% of these streams had measurable concentrations of prescription and nonprescription drugs, steroids, and reproductive hormones. According to various governmental and scientific agencies exposure to even low levels of drugs has negative effects on fish and other aquatic species, and may also negatively affect human health. The World Health Organization has recently established a task force to study and provide guidance on the management of this threat. As our population grows larger and older the use of pharmaceuticals continues to increase exponentially. MedSafe Disposal is filling a void by offering a cost effective mail-back treatment program needed to get the drugs out of our waterways and our drinking water.

Drug Safety:

Pharmaceuticals are accumulating in our homes and posing unnecessary dangers to us and our children.

According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, 2,500 teenagers use prescription drugs to get high every day. Prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs are not usually locked up and can be found simply by opening the pantry, drawer, or medicine cabinet. Furthermore, it is now understood that teenagers believe prescription drugs are safer than illegal drugs and therefore abuse is on the rise. This dangerous and improper use of prescription and over-the-counter drugs has even been named by teenagers as pharming (farming). Furthermore, most drugs have expiration dates that should be followed. Not only may your old medications be ineffective but you may be utilizing them for the wrong symptoms or a self diagnosis that is incorrect. As your medications change you may take an old prescription that may not be safe to take with your new medication. MedSafe Disposal is filling a void by offering a cost effective mail-back treatment program to eliminate your old and expired drugs and assist in keeping them out of the hand of America’s teenagers.
